Black History Month 2022
What a fun filled Black History Month we had here at Kestrel House School. With activities ranging from African Drumming, flag creating, cooking, social stories and music the children were fully immersed in the month. In Life Skills the learners explored making Mac and Cheese, fried plantain and Jollof Rice. Being able to taste food from various countries is important for the children and exposing them to different tastes and textures. It also allows them to trial various fine motor skills from mixing, chopping, slicing and grating to name a few. Families sent in food for class parties that staff and learners enjoyed. Music played a large part in the month, with classes playing it on the interactive boards as well as booking in an African Drumming Class with trained proffessionals. The session was tailored to the sensory needs of our children and was a massive success. Children were given the option of partaking and those who did had lots of fun with plenty of beaming faces around the hall.
